I'm very new to tie-dying, I've been reading that mixed dyes don't last long, slightly longer if refrigerated. Will the mix of reactive dye, sodium alginate, urea, and phosphate water softener work after you freeze it? Just wondering if anyone has tried that.

I have never tried it. I actually don't see why it wouldn't work. It may mess up the thickness of the alginate, but I don't know for sure. I bet the dye itself would be fine though. It is an interesting experiment. I have never heard of anyone doing this though. If anyone else has experience, please speak up.

In general though, reactive dyes are the ones that have a short lifespan in water. Direct dyes like Idye, and Acid dyes are very stable in water. It is finer reactive dyes that can experience hydrolysis(water breaking chemical bonds in the dye) that inactivates them.
