I recently used the Chocolate Brown dye on white cotton fabric and the results came out more pale purple than brown. I'm troubleshooting what may have caused this and am wondering if anyone has some insight? Does the ratio of dye to water need to change?

The fabric was soaked in soda ash before dyeing, dye was applied via a bottle, and the fabric was then wrapped in plastic wrap to sit. 24 hours later it was washed with Synthrapol. Followed the dye instructions on the bottle of 2 tsp powdered dye to 1 cup cold water.

How much fabric were you dyeing here?  I might have used a bit more dye. Browns are complicated because they are mixtures of different colors, and you can get color shifts like that depending on conditions.  Usually by batching(bagging overnight), you get a darker color than the one you described.  I usually use at least a tablespoon in 8oz.  For dark colors like brown and black I usually use 1.5 to 2 tablespoons.  That is 4-6 teaspoons.
