I'm new to silk dying~~ have 3 rush orders, and find myself without fixer ~~~ will vinegar do? will it soften the silk as the fixer does? thanks!

What dye are you using?

If you're using Green Label Silk Colors with the Jacquard Permanent Dyeset Concentrate, you can substitute vinegar for the dyeset only if you also apply heat, such as by steaming. Vinegar plus heat works for acid dyes, as well.

If you're using another fiber reactive dye, you can use sodium carbonate for swimming pools, or washing soda from the grocery store, as a substitute for the soda ash fixer.
