Hi everyone,

I'm a first time Jacquard user and I was going to dye some white embroidery thread that came in a pack I bought recently. I was wondering, do I need to use soda ash and if I do, how much do I need to use? As far as I know, the embroidery thread is 100% cotton and the brand is Loops & Threads from Michaels. I'm using a clean empty peanut butter jar to dye the thread. Thanks!

Hi Peace,

Thanks for writing in.
If you are using the Procion MX dyes you will want to use the soda ash in the dye process. Otherwise you will get staining rather than true fixed dyeing and the thread would lose color each time you washed the finished piece (and back stain the surrounding fabric.
