Hi There -
I have been dyeing for several years with much success. I mainly use fiber reactive dyes that I steam set. I recently purchased a 6 yards length of silk that had been shibori dyed. When I washed the scarf the dye bled badly. Figuring it was acid dyed (in India) I added about one half cup of vinegar to about a gallon or 2 of water and simmered it on the stove for about 30 minutes. It is better, but still bleeds and of course all the gorgous dye work has disappeared. My next trick will be steaming it. Probably for 3 hrs as I don't know what dye was used. I've had this same problem with some silk yarns I have purchased in the past as well. Any guidance on the best course of action next time this happens??
