Hi there. My 11 yo daughter is trying to tie dye red, white and blue. The blue ends up running and making the shirt blue, light and red. We don’t know what to do to keep the white, white. it’s just on white hanes tees. Ty!

This is called "backstaining", and is the bane of people trying to dye just part of the fabric and not other parts.  Washing in cold water is one way to do it, but the best way to do it is to use a detergent made for dyes immediately as you rinse.  Our synthrapol and solar fast wash are great for this.   Not as good, but better than regular laundry detergent is baby shampoo actually.  There are several detergents out there for laundry that have something similar in them.  The ones that say "wash colors and whites together no problem.  Color safe technology"  they are using a dye detergent in them.  So, as soon as you rinse you add one of these to a little container and dunk it in there as soon as you rinse.  Change the water as it gets colored and add more dye detergent as necessary.  Cold water is also a good idea here.
