How much water do I mix w/ one container of the powdered dye? I am batiquing with my students but not immersing the entire project. Insted they are hand painting the project.

For direct dye application with Procion MX type dyes, you can use the tie-dye recipe, typically about 2 to 4 teaspoons (which is very roughly 5 to 10 grams, varying with color and dye lot) per cup of water. You'll want a darker color than is desired for the final color, because it will appear lighter after you wash it out and dry it. Don't forget the [URL=http://www.pburch.net/dyeing/FAQ/sodaash.shtml][U]soda ash[/U][/URL], to set the fiber reactive dye.
