So this is my first hand painted silk fabric project. I love how my painted fabric comes out but have no ideas how to make it softer without damaging the paint or fabric. Any suggestion please!

Hi DT,

Thanks for writing in.
First question is - what paints are you using?
Generally the paints will soften after the first wash. Some people use fabric softeners.
However, if you are using a paint like Neopaque or Lumiere then even though the paint will stay soft and supple it does retain a feel on the silk.
hope this helps

Anet is right you should 1st wash it and then see what happens. Most probably it will get softened. And to protect the paint from getting damaged turn inside out and use warm water on gentle cycle with a mild detergent in a warm rinse. Cold water may cause fabric paint to crack. Line dry. Do not dry clean. Do not use harsh detergents or bleach.
