I dye my yarns in a crock pot, and I solely use idyes and have had AMAZING success with your colors, they are so vibrant and gorgeous, I love them. But the black does not seem to like me, no matter what i do, i feel like I'm hitting my head against the wall, it keeps washing out, i can even dye it with other colors, those colors will stay and the black will wash out, giving me this sort of ashy shade in areas. PLEASE help me work this out, I'm at my wits end.

Note, i have tried the black with everything from alpaca, merino, superwash and not, I've added vinegar (and broken the dye), citric acid, I'm just at a total loss. I have let it sit over night, cook for an hour, to 3 hours, and it still washes out. Please help.

That sounds so incredibly frustrating! Fortunately, I think we can help!
Black iDye is probably the most difficult to use out of all the colors in the line. Heat is especially important. (What temp do you normally dye at?) For best results, I recommend using a fixative. That will help with the washfastness, and it will give you much, much deeper shades of black. Jacquard does offer a fixative for iDye: Here are the instructions: You can use the store locator to find a retailer in your area who carries it: If you cannot find the iDye Fixative, you can also use Jacquard's Permanent Dyeset Concentrate:
I know that part of the appeal of iDye is that it normally does not require a fixative, but in cases like this, it is usually the easiest solution. Alternatively, you could use acid dyes ( or our super fast wool dyes (, which are easy to use and produce beautiful, long-lasting results. It sounds like you've gone through a lot of iDye Black, without much luck, so if you would like me to send you a sample of the fixative and/or black acid dye, I'd be happy to. I think you'll be very happy with your efforts if you add one of these to the mix... You can get in touch with me at: I'd be happy to answer any other questions or concerns...
I hope this has been helpful!
