I prepared my indigo dye vat as directed, then I waited for an hour and the mixture was dark blue-green, not yellow-green. What happened? Was the reducing agent not effective? Can it be fixed or do I need a new kit to start over?

Hard to say without seeing it.  It might be fine.  Dip a paper towel in or a scrap of fabric.  See if it turns blue from the blue green.  Then rinse.  If it all rinses out it is bad, if not even if it is light, you can use it.  You will just need to re-dip many times to get the same level of dark.

Excellent!  One tip for future vats.  I have noticed that the hotter water you use to initially make the vat the better.  After that, temp doesn't make much of a difference.  I have been using hot water form the tap and then putting in 2 tea kettles of boiling hot water to make the vat.  It seems to work better and be more green than I have ever seen it, and it seems to last longer too.
