Tips on picking the right color, lighter shades vs darker shades. Take purple for example. It has 4 shades how can I tell by looking at the chart which one is the lightest shade compared to deep purple.

I picked up golden yellow, it's more of a Orange color, mixed it with green, and have brown areas, how can we avoid getting results that don't blend well by using the color cart.

Thank You

Orange plus green gave you brown because you essentially mixed all three primaries with that combination. Remember: red+ yellow = orange ; blue + yellow = green. To avoid brown areas arrange colors that only involve two primaries beside each other. So beside golden yellow you could have put anther shade of orange, or a shade of red, or another yellow. Then you could have but the green beside the yellow. I hope this is clear.
