I have used some green label dye on wool yarn. Do I need to let it completely dry before steaming? Can I steam it in saran like with acid dyes or does it have to be paper? Thanks.

Hi Mystery,

To answer your questions I'll need a little more info from you. Are you steaming in a pot or in the microwave?

a pot.

Then yes, let the wool dry completely and then wrap in paper to steam.

I discovered it works in the saran wrap just as well. There is less runoff with the steaming than with the dyeset concentrate.

How do you steam in the microwave and for how long? my green label dyes have been really fading lately when I use the dyeset. Not sure if the formulas have changed. This never was a problem before.

I have tried ironing and putting in the dryer to set, but have not seen much of a difference. Also tried using more dyeset, but still got some fading.

I found the following tutorials on steaming in a pressure cooker helpful but have not tried them myself as yet. Still trying to work out how long to steam per 45 x 180 cm scarf.
