I share this technique every year at an art fair where nonartists get to be creative. I need help to improve their success. 1. Does paint dilution affect the paint's ghosting capabilities?  2. Does the "clock" start ticking on the paint and its ability to create ghosts once it hits the wet silk?
8x54" silk scarves hot laundered in Synthrapol. All objects firmly placed, pinned to maximize surface contact. Painters work out of the sun, under tents. Scarves fully dried in sun. Even if we kept the silk wet by water spritzing, those who took more than a few minutes to place their objects on the silk and get it into the sun had much less well defined ghosting underneath their objects.
Appreciate help and really want to understand the chemical nature of the paint so we can optimize success as we introduce this technique to nonartists.

Yes it is true, the silk loses "ghosting" ability as soon as it starts to dry.  It should be very wet.  The moisture is the most important part. The whole idea is that the area underneath is wet and as the exposed area dries, it sucks the water from under the object and brings the paint with it.  So the drier it gets, the worse it is at accomplishing this.  



Also as and FYI: 
If you are using our scarves they are PFD(prepared for dyeing) and have been scoured already and do not need a wash in synthrapol, but it doesn't hurt.
